Mechanical personnel often have diverse responsibilities within the rail sector, including being site based, managing projects, coordinating design teams, and producing technical drawings. There is frequently a good deal of interaction with electrical designers and engineers, particularly in the building services aspects of these roles - so those jobseekers that have demonstrable experience and/or knowledge of both mechanical and electrical engineering are at a distinct advantage. All applicants should have a sound understanding of the relevant computer systems, including CAD and Microstation; as well as the generic office management suites, where competency is usually required.
