Tony Gee and Partners LLP provides specialist technical services to the worldwide construction industry. Commissions include feasibility studies, designs and scheme construction methodology and expert reports.
A large proportion of work is carried out in a competitive design and construct environment where technical expertise, economic awareness, management skills and appreciation of client needs have led to TGP's achievements on major international projects.
The company believes that the success of projects depends on the people who work on them. Its recruitment policy is driven by its need for highly qualified engineers with practical experience
Rail
TGP's direct involvement in design work for railways commenced in 1990 with the award of the New International Terminal at Waterloo, where an alternative design by Tony Gee and Partners won the contract and, after its completion, National Awards for its innovation. It was the beginning of an extensive expansion within the rail industry where current work involves feasibility studies, the assessment and detailed design of railway overbridges, underbridges, stations and depots, embankment stabilisation and permanent way installations along with many ancillary services such as technical tender assessment, claims analysis and construction engineering. TGP Rail is fully Link-Up accredited for design and site investigated works.
Bridge design & construction methodology
The design of bridges and the methods by which they are constructed has been a staple to Tony Gee and Partners since conception of the practice. TGP's focus has always been on providing bespoke solutions for its clients through a culture of innovation and technology that is based on sound engineering.
Buildings
TGP's buildings design experience encompasses schemes in partnership with both private and public sector clients. Well-versed in all of the main construction mediums in use today, the portfolio covers many significant projects worldwide. From the construction methodology of major sporting complexes to hospitals, schools and commercial builds, TGP has an exemplary record in devising unique and innovative ways to construct any building.
Temporary works
A significant proportion of TGP’s workload is carried out in a competitive design and build environment. Unusually, this involvement is divided between the design of permanent works themselves and the development of temporary works, construction and erection methods, together with design of the specialist equipment necessary to build the structure. The practice has a particular specialism in the design of erection gantries and other items of mechanical equipment for the construction of structures. This combination of skills enables efficient, innovative and economical designs to be produced, a fact recognised by involvement in major international projects.
Special projects
TGP is renowned throughout the industry for finding the right solution to any complex problem. For those schemes, which require one-off or novel solutions or require special consideration of constraints and client objectives, the specialist knowledge of the TGP Special Projects team is called upon.
The Special Projects group undertakes all work relating to advanced composites (strengthening of structures using CFRP). TGP is one of the two consulting engineers in the UK who are permitted to design using FRP materials on Network Rail infrastructure.
Marine
The design of marine works has been a key part of TGP ‘s workload from the conception of the practice. Indeed, one of the first commissions carried out was the total refurbishment of a harbour in Libya. Designs range from jetties, rollon , roll off bridges, river and canal work through to floating structures.
Highways
TGP’s highways experience is extensive. Stemming from many years of experience in the design of highways and their associated structures, TGP has moved from strength to strength within this sector.
The core of Tony Gee and Partners’ practice has been the provision of design services to contractors, covering both the design of permanent and temporary works. One of the key features is an in depth knowledge of the construction process and an ability to tailor this for individual circumstances. In addition, TGP's philosophy has been to form associations with contractors from the very outset of the project, either for a conventional or design and construct project. This means that its ideas and experience can be utilised throughout the full process. Due to this long-standing experience, TGP knows and understands what is needed by a contractor when developing schemes, it is appreciative of the information a contractor needs at tender stage in order to develop the price, and it also understands the importance of time performance in producing designs for tender purposes, and subsequently for construction.
Geotechnics
The core services within TGP have always necessitated considerable geological and geotechnical input. As a consequence, TGP decided to consolidate and expand its geotechnical capabilities with the formation of TGP Geotechnics. The company's approach to engineering in the ground is through an integrated cost-effective design incorporating the range of specialist geotechnical skills and combining these, where projects demand, with the wider engineering skills of TGP to provide a multi-disciplinary approach.
